It has recently come to my knowledge that a certain statutory board's corp communications department is using the left-over money from their over-budget projects on things such as unnecessary installation of software on computers (even for those who wouldn't need it in their course of work), and needless (did I mentioned that insider news say that the majority is not interested in going at all?) one-day 'staff networking' trips. Staff will network if they really want to network...
Justify all you want, Director, there's no need to think so hard about what to spend the $$ on. Just give a little bit of it to the needy people of Singapore.
Quote from the blog of ToPMLeeHsienLoong.blogspot.com:
"...Instead of doing what is best for Singapore, the aim of the civil servants are to please their employers... their own career takes precedent. And ordinary Singaporeans as a whole loses out."

S$8 million is a lot of money to the needy in Singapore.
ReplyDeleteWe fought hard until we are red in the faces for another S$30 for the vulnerable elderly Public Assistance recipients living alone and are surviving on the PA rates which will be increased from $330 to $360 a month come 1st April 2009.
Yet S$8 million or more could be spent on promoting 52 museums in Singapore; bringing in extravagant shows/exhibits; sponsoring free-loaders to their events.
I was naive to support them in the past. They are only concerned with putting up a good show, getting their promotions and earning high salaries, care for the community was far from their minds.
